Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
Causes include obesity (short, thick neck), enlarged tongue base, soft palate collapse when lying on the back, enlarged tonsils (common in children), and genetic factors. These can lead to airway obstruction, resulting in snoring, breathing pauses, and insufficient ventilation.
This condition can be reflected in physiological indicators such as decreased blood oxygen levels accompanied by compensatory increased heart rate and nighttime awakenings. It is considered a systemic disease.
